Day 3 of Texas Adventures | Day 1 of A-Kon

Posted on

I had slept as soon as I had finished typing the blog around 8:30am in the morning. I was planning to wake up at around 1 o’clock but that didn’t work out as I had planned ahaha. Instead, I woke up at 3pm feeling a bit hazy. I did not mean to get the 8 hours that I normally get. I’m going to have to learn how to force myself to stay awake after I initially wake up. I am perfectly capable of doing so but it just appears that I have issues doing so. Anyway, shortly after I had woken up, I went through my bag to get what I needed to do the typical duties one would do after waking up. It was just a little difficult because there were several people who were still sleeping and one was sleeping right next to my bag. For a while, I tried to be as silent as I could but it simply wasn’t working out. Thus, I decided to just simply move my bag and move it in the hall that connects the two bedrooms (I was put in the executive suite). I was a bit worried at first because I thought that the shower would be loud and perhaps wake a few people up but that was not the case. After I took my shower and brushed my teeth, I went off to search for Nightmaren and the group of friends that came along.
I found Nightmaren and the group in the Funimation studio and began to watch a bit of the trailers they were showcasing since there wasn’t much time until it would finish. Unfortunately it was dubbed so I was having such a difficult time keeping my head intact while listening to terrible voice acting. After it was finally finished, I waited for Nightmaren and Mr.C (along with other people) to show up and I began the fun in the con. I tried my best this time to get out of my comfort zone and ask as many people for pictures. There were a lot of great cosplayers and they were all very friendly. Thanks to having Nightmaren around, I was able to have my pictures taken with a few of the cosplayers~ First, we went to go grab some food in the food court. We went to a café (I can’t remember the name of the café for the life of me at the moment) and ordered our food there. I got a pasta combo (pasta and salad) and tomato soup. I was surprised on how well they made all the food and it was very delicious. In fact, if it wasn’t closed, I would be going back to eat some more regardless of how much money I have ahaha. Then later, we had gone through the Exhibit halls to find a messenger bag because the case my sister gave me to hold the laptop does not have a shoulder strap. For a while, I couldn’t find anything because it was all outrageously expensive. I had forgotten that you don’t go to a con for a sale. The messenger bags were ranging from freaking 25~45 dollars. I managed to find a Kiddy Grade messenger bag for 10 dollars. Even though I don’t know anything about the anime, I liked how it look compared to the rest of the bags and went with that. After a while, we regrouped with the rest of Nightmaren’s friends and I was introduced to them all. We sat around for quite a while to wait for another person who apparently has a phone whose text service is like a hole. The C person (what we will call this particular person) doesn’t receive anything but can send messages. That is what I’m told at least. I found it hilarious. After we had finally regrouped, we began to wander around the con trying to find something to do. Unfortunately there wasn’t much to do in the first place so Nightmaren and I separated from the group again to walk around randomly. In that time, I got myself a Dai-Gurren t-shirt. I was (and still am) happy. There wasn’t really anything significant that we’ve done except for just having interesting experiences and generally having fun. We did go to an AMV contest viewing but as soon as we had watched two AMVs, they announced it was finished. It was hilarious to think that we went just in time to watch two AMVs. From that point, we continued to wander around and hang out. At this point, it was getting to the time where the Exhibits were closing. Most people leave around this time so it was pretty crowded. I used that opportunity to see if I could find a way to gain internet access. The head staff for the Kon Patrol said that there is no way for us to access the internet but to try the Link@Sheraton. Guess what? Room number and last name. Fuck. So there goes that plan as well. If you’re asking… yes I am typing this in a word document yet again. Now I’m just chilling out and about ten minutes ago, Nightmaren called me to let me know that there were things that needed to be done. It was unfortunate to know Night was leaving so soon but this is what I had expected initially so it’s all good. Now I just have to kill two more hours and then I will begin to work from 12am to 6am. Might be a better idea so I have less time to kill before I can enter my crash space at 8am. At least I found this comfortable area to charge the laptop and my other electronics while I wait. For now, I have finished what I was trying to do and will probably roam around some more.
So yeah, all I did was just sit around and wait for my shift to start. An hour before my shift started though, I started to dance for a good thirty minutes. Probably not a good idea but I did so anyway. It’s still a lot of fun and it’s one of the few times that I can just dance like a crazy monkey. After I finished dancing, I sat around waiting to check in to start working. This time around, I was to stand guard next to elevators. No, that’s not a typo. Basically, no one was allowed to get on the elevators except for high level staff and people who should be an exception (ie. Pregnant women). So from 12-6, I stood guard making sure people don’t get on the elevator. There were surprisingly a lot of people who were understanding so it was a little irritating when people wouldn’t try to understand. I definitely met a few cool people such as a guy named Kevin (who apparently came from New Mexico and runs his own con) and a guy named Hunt (who just came an hour before saying hello). My mistake during the shift was to try to stand the entire time. I definitely should have sat whenever I had the chance. Well, now that I’m here in the J-Pop room, I’m able to rest my feet. It’s actually pretty nice though I do have my preferences but that’s to be expected. There’s not much else to talk about at this point because it really was boring during the shift and not much happened. Though it was fun talking to the fellow volunteers that were just as bored as I was and killing time before being able to get into the crash space. While I was in the J-Pop room, I was talking about music with someone named Amay (I’m not too sure how to spell her name). We eventually walked out of the room to listen to the music we were mentioning to each other. Then she and I went to the Starbucks that really close nearby to get something to eat. It was at a Marriott hotel but I ended up eating a parfait instead. It was really nice though cause it looks like there was an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet that is only 14 dollars. I couldn’t do it at the time but I will do it after my next and last shift. After we finished over there, we went back just to wait a little bit more to get to our crash space. They were taking a while so it was really frustrating. I went upstairs next to my room with a friend (who was a fellow patrol) just to wait for my room. When I went back down to the Kiosk to see if they would hurry it up, they said that they’ll come up at 8:30. Apparently when I had left, the two guys were saying that there were about 10 people had entered my room. Talk about bad luck. Nevertheless, I was able to get back into my room and finally got some sleep.
