Day 5 of Texas Adventures | Final Day of A-Kon

I didn’t go to sleep. I knew I wouldn’t be able to wake up in time if I went to sleep. What I did instead was going to the crash space and taking my bags to the concierge area for them to hold it for me until I can take it to Nightmaren’s car. After doing so, I went to the Marriott hotel to finally eat the breakfast buffet. I’ll simply say that I have never have had such excellent service as I have had with these guys. Red, as she prefers to be called, remembered my name and just provided 5 star quality service. I’ll have to make a separate post just to give them a review. After doing so, I went to go find Nightmaren because Night had just recently arrived. We had roamed around for a bit once we regrouped but eventually decided to head back to the car to put my stuff in there. We did it just in time to be able to get into the Cat Maid Café. When we presented our receipts, the nightmare had just begun. They had exclaimed and called us “Pre-reggies.”As we left a bit to wait (cause we had arrived a little early), we had only muttered Ms. C’s name silently in much pain. We were very concerned that we would be the only people for the 12 o’clock show. So our fortune, we were not the only ones that were in that show and in fact a lot of people came. The maids were not all that cute. There was a butler that had joined our table too. There were two tables full of customers and maids. A bit of a rip-off going on in there because they charged a ridiculous amount for a drink. I was disappointed that it was not the kind of “café” per say that I had been hoping for. Our table had decided to play a different version of Jenga. Since there was three different colours, we had to take out a different coloured Jenga piece each time. Red, yellow and blue. If we had failed to keep the structure standing, we would be sentenced to a punishment game. Nightmaren and I honestly said to each other that the crying would soon begin. The impeding dewm was much more powerful than we had ever expected. It was a lot more fun than we had imagined it being however. There has never been so much honesty and honour in the group. If there was only one piece that was holding the structure up, we suggested taking that piece. Whenever we took a piece from the tower, we placed it as weird as we could on top. Lady Fortune must have been smiling upon us because neither of us had been “punished.” The guys that did, however, were very funny to watch on the stage. To our surprise, time had went by very quickly as well. It was a bit interesting to see the random “show” the maids would do such as doing to the vampire song from iDOLM@STER. They were actually good at dancing and practically just played Jenga with us the entire time. By the time I had checked my watch, there was only ten minutes left. When time had finally passed and we had to leave, Nightmaren and I had asked the receptionist about our pictures. They had momentarily forgotten and asked us to pick a maid. Nightmaren had a great idea and asked for all the maids (and one butler). It was only one dollar extra for each person so we paid six dollars for this. What I DIDN’T expect was that Nightmaren ended up dewming me. When we went up to the stage for the picture, we were asked what we wanted and Nightmaren immediately said, “I WANT YOU NEXT TO ME AND THEN YOU.” As they were arranging each other to fit the picture, I had realized what Night had done. I was about to kneel until they asked for me to lay down instead. I decided to go with the flow and I did. They said do something sexy. I did. I got dewmed in the end while Nightmaren had the final laugh. Regardless of this fact, it was a hilarious memory and I enjoyed it. Have to thank Ms. C, but in a way where we can politely ask for it to not happen again ahaha.

After that, Nightmaren went in line to get a copy of Negima signed by one of the English voice actors while I went to the Dealer’s Room to do some final shopping. After I had finished, I went to go see the anime orchestra. I was a little disappointed in the performance, but they only had a total of seven hours of practice. For that reason, I cut them a bit of slack. Once I finished with that panel, we regrouped and decided to get ready to go. Nightmaren wanted to eat first so that’s what we did. As we were sitting around, we were talking about the photos we had taken and I was a bit upset that the Victorique cosplayer had red eyes in the photo I had taken. Shortly after (of perhaps ten minutes), the cosplayer herself had to sit next to us because her friend went to the men’s bathroom (I had to go and there were seats next to it). We talked to her and had a good conversation. She was charming and interesting to talk to. I just feel bad for the cosplayers who had to deal with creepers as she had. After a while, her friend finally finished and we had to wrap things up as well. We then headed downstairs to talk to the other friends that were in line to get the voice actor of FMA’s Ed and inform them of our plan. It was funny because they were in that line for a long time whereas Nightmaren’s line had apparently went by very quickly. Anyway, once communication was set, we went out to go to the airport. It was UNBEARABLY HOT. I’m just glad I suffered early in the morning when I had to put my bags away. The instant I went into Nightmaren’s car, I started sweating non-stop. Everything was hot to the touch. After a while of rolled down windows and AC, it was starting to get a little easier. On the way there, I started dozing on and off due to the fact that I didn’t get any sleep except for the 30 minute power nap I got during my shift. Once I got dropped off, I had to ask Nightmaren to keep the larp weapon because I honestly had no use for it and I was predicting that I would have issues with bringing it in. There was no way Nightmaren could keep it due to the apartment rules but agreed to keep it in the trunk to possibly send to me at a later time. Once we said our farewells, I went up the escalator to get ready for my next flight.

Just like coming to Texas, it was a bit dewmy trying to go through the item check except worse since I had the two banners as well. It went alright though so I figured it’d be okay. As I sat down to wait for the airplane, I noticed someone who was wearing a furry-eared hat. He had been fanning himself because he was hot and someone had told him that he wouldn’t be as hot if he took it off. He later explained that he was from Alaska and it would be hot for him anyway. After much analysis, I came to the solution that he was from the con and I was correct. So luckily thanks to his presence, we killed 45 minutes easily since that’s about the time I needed to kill in order to board the plane. I felt bad for him cause he had to wait 12 hours before he could catch his flight. I never got his last name but his name was Matt. He was an interesting person and I enjoyed talking to him. Anyway, my phone had dewmed and wouldn’t go back to the check in screen so I had to ask someone for a print out of my boarding ticket. Once I started to get through, one of the guys had taken a look at my duffel bag and insisted that my bag would not fit in the overhead storage. Therefore he had taken it to the bag checkin area. I just hope that I won’t be charged the 20 dollars but according to a passenger that sits right next to me, I shouldn’t. It’s just a little embarrassing when I have to hold everyone up. After everything was settled, the plane finally got ready to go and I had laid my head for the sleep I needed. Two hours later I woke back up to type this out ahaha. Since I have a bit of time before I land, I shall sleep a little longer and when I do wake back up, I will finally be able to go back home and post everything. Thanks for following the blog! Sorry I couldn’t post it legit as I would have liked to.

  1. The entire ordeal is one that’s going to stay with me as one of my fondest college memories. It really left me wanting for more. It was great fun though, especially because there were so many interesting people.

It still kind of feels surreal to me how quickly everything progressed. I’m talking about how you decided to visit me in Texas, how we planned out the trip, etc… and just like that it is over. This is a typical thing as far as vacations go, but it is still interesting to think about nonetheless. I enjoyed giving you a taste of my daily life and the people I hang around with. Who knows? Maybe we will be able to do it again sometime.

    1. Yes, I’ll have to agree with you on the fact that there were many interesting people. It was a really nice feeling that you could just go up to anyone and have a nice conversation like with the Victorique cosplayer on the last day of the con. I also agree that it felt like a dream due to how the days blended together. One of these days, we will be able to do something similar. Maybe not at a con but we will indeed have another good time one of these days.

  2. Hey! This is the Victorique cosplayer you mentioned ^///^ Thank you for posting the photo, you are such a kind person ^^ I thought I’d add you on facebook so we can keep in touch! I’ll also be going to Afest, and I’ll be bringing my Victorique cosplay as well as a few others and it’d be nice to get to talk to you again! You can search up “Kitt Familiaris” on facebook and add me if you wish. My current profile picture is of me wearing what I have so far of my Homura cosplay from Madoka (i’m wearing a long black wig), so please don’t get confused by the profile picture! Hopefully I hear back from you soon!
