I cosplayed as Heiwajima Shizuo from Durarara! today. Not that it bothered me, but hardly anyone asked for my photograph. This time, I was almost glad because I had the intention of making up for what I couldn’t do yesterday. So prepare, everyone. There will be a LOT of pictures here!
As you can see, there are about 186 pictures here! Sure, there were several Love Live pictures along with the Durarara! ones as well. I also took more than one picture of each cosplayer. Nevertheless, I think I was rather fortunate to have come up with this many pictures!
These look really great! I was happy that we got some professional photographers at the DRRR!! shoot. I was the Shinra who was in charge of it. That’s me in the picture with 3 Celtys and Shinras, the one on the far left. Again, thanks for coming, and I hope you had a great con!
Thanks man! I can’t say I was amongst the “professionals” there but it certainly had a charm~ It’s just a shame that there were no other better locations. I’m certain it would have been much better if it were but oh well~
I did have a good con! I took a lot of pictures so that’s all that I care about~ Hope you had a good one too!
I’m always looking for ways to improve things. Since I hadn’t been there for a couple years, I defaulted to the location we used in 2013. Which location do you think would have been better?
Well for one thing, I thought the timing was odd more than anything. It was during the concert and it started right when the sun would begin to go down (and it goes down really fast in WA). So normally any time before the time slot you had chosen, that would be a great spot. Otherwise, it would have been better if you had chosen a place with more lighting (which can be a difficult task if you try to make these photoshoots outside).
Most photographers will prefer to take pictures without flash in order to prevent contrast between the subject and the background. When it is dark outside and flash is used, the subject becomes too bright and shadows from the contours of their body (such as the shadows from the forehead, nose, etc) becomes too harsh. So as far as other locations go, if it were to be around the same time slot you had chosen, I think it would have been better inside. Since the exhibition hall would be closed, I think the skybridge would have been one good idea. Another would have been the mini area that’s in front of the smoothie cafe (where the Love Live photoshoot took place).
That’s just a suggestion from me and by no means should it be taken as absolute. However I do want to note that I find it admirable that you are earnestly looking for ways to improve and make it a better experience for everyone. Hopefully next year it will be even better!
Yeah, I was trying to get this sort of twilight hour so that the sun would be hitting in such a way that it looks similar to the opening sequence from the first season. (I also wanted to make sure it happened after the chess game I wanted to watch but didn’t think about the concert, so that’s my bad.)
I felt like nighttime would be a little too dark, but since I live down in Portland, I only had the online sun up/sun down guides to go off of. I feel like what I actually got was more of a dingy grey followed by darkness. I was hoping to end the shoot with a couple of dark shots since a handful of the scenes take place at night (and I’ve seen some people do photoshoots at night that turned out pretty great), but it kinda backfired on me.
Add to that the fact that I was going off of memory when it came to the location (haven’t been up there since 2013 and the reference photos people had weren’t all that helpful) and we wind up with a great gathering but not so great timing and lighting.
I had considered moving the shoot inside if it rained, but I was thinking of using the stairs in the “main hall” area. Now that I think about it, though, the skybridge does have a pretty good view of the city, so it would be a good location to consider for the next shoot. I felt like the second floor cafe area (that’s the one you’re talking about, right?) was a little overused, though. Not to say that’s a bad thing, but I guess I just wanted a bit of variety, so to speak. (As a side note, it was kinda hard to get photos at the RWBY shoot in the cafe area without someone’s camera equipment being in the way, which I can’t recall ever being a problem before…)
Anyway, thanks for the feedback! I feel that someone like you who knows the area and has a more in-depth knowledge of camera techniques than I do would have a better grasp on locations and timing and such, so you were very helpful. I may not be going next year, though. I’ve been trying to set up an on/off schedule for Sakuracon since it falls on Easter and my family “misses” me. But if I stick to my plan, I should be back in 2017!
I was the tsukihi araragi (aka the girl with the egg clip and the blue green yukata)
Ah yes, the Tsukihi. It was nice to see some Nisemonogatari cosplays! I saw a Karen somewhere but I couldn’t find her after initially finding her. Saddening :/
Anyway, thanks for letting me take your picture, Chloe! If there’s a website you would like for me to redirect for you, let me know!
The pictures you took of my summer uniform Nozomi are so pretty! my cosplay page ^^ https://www.facebook.com/GreenRiderNikkiCosplay
You were really good as Nozomi! Thanks for letting me take your picture~

Sorry for the late reply!
