Day 2 of Texas Adventure

Posted on

I was planning on waking up at 8am but I decided to sleep a little more. After all, that would have been 6am for me which is simply absurd. I was about to sleep until 10am but I decided to get up and take a shower at 9:45am. Before I did, I shaved. I don’t typically like to shave after I shower. Thus, I will take the time to shave before I head to the shower. Thanks to the shampoo and conditioner, my hair felt a bit cleaner after I had finished taking a shower. Ever since I started to have long hair (long for guys), I started using conditioner. It just feels so much nicer after I use it. There’s no need when my hair gets short. After I had finished taking a shower, I took my time to pack up. I had already did most of it the night before so I didn’t really have to do much. Afterwards, I went downstairs with my stuff in hopes that I was in time for breakfast (I had left at 10:30am). To my dismay, nothing was there. I later found out that they served it from 6-10am. I had figured it was something like that so I wasn’t angry. I’m just glad I didn’t eat the instant noodles the night before. The only thing was that there wasn’t a faucet nearby and the hot water was gone. Before I went to find water for the cup of noodles, I went to check out first since they required everyone to check out at 11am. Then I got ready to set up the little mini office that you can see in the pictures below. Now I’m just sitting here and waiting for my friend to come pick me up to do stuff. I think I’ll go sketch as I wait.
Finally I get the chance to type something out. After I had gotten picked up by my friend, we had left to go to the Sheraton Hotel for them to get the badge and for me to do that and go to the meeting for the A-Kon patrol. Before we had left, Nightmaren said something that was just extraordinarily hilarious. Nightmaren was talking about the other group of friends and said, “Unfortunately my friends are all simultaneously being morons and that is why it is just me and -name omitted-.”Anyway, the meeting was pretty nice. The badge is pretty legitimate as well. To my dismay, however, it turns out that we had to do the A-Kon patrol if we worked night shifts. Not only that, there were two other things that I was a bit bummed out about: If we have crash space, we need to work two more hours. In order to get to our rooms, you’d have to go at a certain time. Day shift people can only enter the rooms from 8pm to 8am, while night shift people like me can only go in from 8am to 8pm. Anyway I had later went down to see if I could find my friend and the other friend he brought. It took a while but I finally found him once I got a fellow Kon-Patrol coworker to charge my phone ever so slightly to call. Finally I found Nightmaren and Mr. C (that is how we will refer to this man as he will be attending with Nightmaren). When I met up with them, Nightmaren pointed out that the red girl out of the two bunny girl duo was the doctor that had been shadowed not too long ago. I took a picture for kicks and giggles (and they really were cute). When they got the badge, we all left to get to the car. After I had retrieved my stuff, we said our farewells and it was just me from there on out.
Fortunately, all I had to do was wait around for a little bit and I eventually was able to get to do the job. I started at 10 o’clock so that I could get in the crash space early without being so dewmed. All I did that entire time was watch the escalators (and the area around) to make sure people weren’t doing stupid things (such as riding the rails, sitting down on the escalator, running, etc). It was the most longest and most painful thing I have ever done. I’m not used to standing in one spot the entire time on tile flooring. Since it was Thursday, the day before the Kon had actually started, I didn’t have to worry about much but it was certainly boring. The rest of the crew had assured me that the other two days that I’ll be working will be filled with work. It was nice though to be on shift. I had met some random people who were fun to talk to, took some pictures with good cosplayers, and my Zone Leader (Bill, the one [description here]) was awesome. Every time he passed by me, he asked if I was okay, needed a snack or water. I guess that’s something of a habit now since it appears that he has been doing this for quite a while. While I was standing there being bored out of my mind, I saw a Simon cosplayer being escorted by two girls dressing up as a neko maid. They were kind of cute and since they kept passing by, I figured I could take a picture. After I took a picture of them, they insisted that I should be in a picture with them. Both of the times, as they would go into their poses they would say “Nyaa!” Without any intention, my eyes twitched when I heard that. It was a bit worse when they were taking a picture near me because they had slightly touched me (most likely by accident) and I was just uncomfortable. Tried my best to make the most out of it. Anyway, as time went by, I took random pictures (and I included the one of the area I was watching over) and was chatting and texting people. The others were doing it, and they didn’t seem to care that I was too as long as I kept my attention.
After my shift had finally ended, I got ready to turn in the badge, blog and get some sleep. NOPE. I had forgotten the other rule that made me disappointed. I had to wait until 8am. So I went downstairs near where the registration areas were at and noticed there was a small ring where people were boffing. I really don’t know the term but I’ll probably edit this out and put in the right one [it’s called larping! What a weird name!]. I got bored and wanted to join in but they didn’t have any extras. So I purchased a “weapon” for 45 dollars. I regretted it after a few rounds playing. I will probably give it to Nightmaren because I don’t want to have to go through some weird procedure when flying back home. So I stayed around for about two and a half hours and left afterwards. There were some cool people and there was one guy who looked like a modern Harry Potter (minus the scar) who would not stop talking and making excuses. After I had left, I met one of the other guys again to which I found out whose name is Alex. He’s a cool guy and wanted to take a picture with me. He said it was okay to place it here so you’ll see it eventually. After I had waited till 8am, I FINALLY got to the room and started typing this out. The funny thing is that what I had feared happened: I don’t have access to the internet. So for the time being, I will just write this all out on a word document and hope for the best when I wake up. Until then.

  1. LOL, the neko maids. Here’s what I imagine their thoughts were like:

“Wow, a real Asian person! Let’s take a picture with him!”

Their costumes aren’t bad, though. :P

    1. Ahaha, well you already know that they weren’t the neko maids that we ended up dewming with. Even if they did think that, they didn’t take pictures themselves so it was only for me. Regardless, they were KINDA cute. That thought instantly disappeared the moment they said “nyaa~”

  2. They do look cute, but… Yeah… I dunno. I probably would have felt the same, lol. It gets under my skin when people do things like that.
